FROM DREAM TO SUCCESS
John Hoffman's dream of helping bright African American and Latino students to experience the benefits of an independent school education gave way to the incorporation of the Albert G. Oliver Program in the fall of 1984. To commemorate the founding of this community of supportive educators, sponsors and peers, we will come together on November 10 to celebrate, remember and recommit ourselves to that dream and the dreams of all Oliver Scholars and their families... past, present and future.
At the Gotham Comedy Club, we will honor founder John Hoffman and original independent school partners Westtown, Brooklyn Friends and George School for promoting social equity, and celebrate The Oliver Scholars' community as Champions of Educational Excellence. Current Oliver Scholars will present a special performance followed by former Oliver staffer, Steven Tejada (actor, writer, speaker, educator) as he performs excerpts from his acclaimed one man show "Boogie Down Journeys" which includes reflections on the journey of students of color in the independent school world.
